Wrestling Inc have reported that WWE plan on holding a Queen of the Ring tournament later this year. The report suggests that this show would feature main roster talent and air on Peacock. WWE’s latest all-women’s show was Evolution, which took place in October 2018.
Despite hosting twenty-one King of the Ring tournaments since 1985, WWE have never held a Queen of the Ring. Nevertheless, in recent history, the promotion has held two Mae Young Classic tournaments. These aired episodically on the WWE Network, in 2017 (won by Kairi Sane) and 2018 (won by Toni Storm). However, both editions featured developmental talent, with no main roster involvement.
A Twitter exchange sparked rumours of a King of the Ring comeback earlier this summer. Xavier Woods tweeted WWE Official Adam Pearce regarding the tournament, with the authority figure hinting at its return. Baron Corbin last claimed the crown in 2019, defeating Chad Gable in the Final on Raw. With the advent of Women’s Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank matches during the “Women’s Evolution”, a women’s King of the Ring equivalent is perhaps overdue.
