During last night’s Great American Bash edition of NXT, General Manager William Regal announced an NXT Championship match for next week. The undefeated Karrion Kross will defend the gold against former champion Johnny Gargano, with Samoa Joe as special guest referee. The champion and challenger traded barbs in a face-to-face segment following Regal’s announcement.
Since unsuccessfully challenging for the NXT Championship in a Fatal 5-Way at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, “Johnny Wrestling” has continually provoked Kross. Subsequently, The Way’s leader has earned renewed fan support. This incurred the wrath of the 2-time NXT Champion however, who laid Gargano out on the 22/06 episode. The sadistic champion even attempted to run Gargano over a week later.
After weeks of both Superstars antagonising one another, William Regal appointed Samoa Joe as special guest referee in order to maintain control of the bout. This was much to the chagrin of Kross, who has developed escalating tension with the Samoan Submission Machine recently. Notably, it was Joe who rescued the challenger in the parking lot on 29/06. His addition adds a further layer of intrigue to an already enticing match.
Also confirmed for next week is the return of the NXT Breakout Tournament, which features eight of the Capitol Wrestling Center’s brightest new talents. No further matches or segments are confirmed as of this writing. Regardless, the upcoming edition of NXT is already shaping up nicely.
