During last night’s WrestleMania Backlash event, WWE announced that Hell in a Cell 2021 is due to be held on Sunday, 20th June. It is assumed that the show will be broadcast from the WWE Thunderdome in Tampa’s Yuengling Center. This will be the 13th iteration of the annual pay-per-view.
The Money in the Bank pay-per-view was originally pencilled in for late June. According to Andrew Zarian, Money in the Bank is now scheduled for Sunday, 18th July and will take place in front of a live crowd. This correlates with Zarian’s previous report that WWE intend to resume touring in July, however both rumours are yet to be confirmed by WWE.
This represents a significant adjustment to the WWE pay-per-view schedule. The Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, which debuted in 2009, had become an autumn tradition. All past editions occurred in either September or October between Summerslam and Survivor Series. WWE are yet to announce which shows will fill the September and October slots on the calendar later this year.
Last year’s edition, which featured three Hell in a Cell matches, received praise from fans. Sasha Banks finally won the Smackdown Women’s Championship from Bayley and Roman Reigns defeated his cousin Jey Uso in an “I Quit” match to retain the Universal Title. In the main event, Randy Orton took the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre.
