The catchily titled WrestleMania Backlash takes place on Sunday May 16th with a previously announced main event of Bobby Lashley defending his WWE Championship against his WrestleMania opponent, Drew McIntyre.

Following the events of Raw, that match has been scrubbed and instead, Braun Strowman has been added to the match to make the contest a triple threat.

McIntyre originally booked his place in the match with a triple threat victory over Strowman and Randy Orton on Raw three weeks ago. However, this week’s Raw changed that with a slightly convoluted show-long storyline.

The opening match on Raw was supposed to be Strowman and McIntyre facing T-BARR and Mace in a tag team match. At Strowman’s request, this match became a handicap match with The Scottish Warrior staying backstage.

After winning by disqualification, Strowman was attacked by the former RETRIBUTION members before McIntyre made the save and the match was restarted as a tag match after all, which was won by the formerly masked duo by countout.

Strowman later complained to WWE official Adam Pearce that he should be the one getting the shot against Lashley rather than McIntyre. After some minor manipulation from Strowman, Pearce agreed to make a match between he and McIntyre later in the night. If The Monster Among Men won, he would be added to the Backlash title match.

Come the show’s main event and win Strowman did after faintly illogical interference from T-BARR, Mace and MVP which means that Lashley must now defend his title against both men at the PPV.

So far, this is one of only two matches announced for the show. The second will see Bianca Belair defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley.
