A new report has shed some light in to how up in the air the card still is for WrestleMania 38, with WWE reportedly still searching for a “major attraction” to replace a recently scrapped planned contest.

The fallout from Shane McMahon’s brief return to WWE at the Royal Rumble is still being felt, and the impact seems to have gone as far as ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’.

Shane McMahon reportedly gained a lot of backstage heat, including with Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar, over his actions backstage on the day of the Rumble, where he was an agent for the men’s match as well as being involved. Other reports called his conduct “unprofessional”.

There has also been plenty of talk that the appearances were set to continue over the coming months, including being a part of the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia later this month.

According to WrestleVotes, this would have led to Shane McMahon appearing at WrestleMania, with many commenting that his likely opponent was Seth Rollins. The new report says that WWE are still pondering what to replace the match with, but know it needs to be something big.

Shane McMahon has held plenty of roles within the company, including starting out in the late 1980’s as a referee. His roles backstage eventually then switched back to being on-screen during the Attitude Era as a key player in the McMahon family, whilst also putting in death-defying antics to his matches.

He originally left the company in 2009, before a stint as an on-screen character in 2016. Before the Royal Rumble, McMahon last competed in a cage match against Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 37.

Two matches are scheduled so far for this year’s WrestleMania, with both Royal Rumble winners now declaring their intentions. Ronda Rousey will face Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, whilst Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will finally once again go one on one, with the Universal Championship on the line.
