What Would Have Happened To Adam Cole If He Stayed With WWE?

Adam Cole

Adam Cole may have joined AEW and realigned himself with The Elite at All Out, but a new report has suggested what would have been in his future had he stayed at WWE.

The Undisputed Era captain shocked many when he appeared at the AEW showpiece event, after his WWE contract expired. Whilst it looked like he was going to help the fallen Christian Cage, Jungle Boy and Luchasauras, he instead double crossed them to add himself to Kenny Omega’s ranks.

There had been much confusion in July when it appeared Cole’s WWE contract expired that month. Although WWE rushed to get him to sign an extension, his last match would be against Kyle O’Reilly at NXT: TakeOver 36.

A new report from Dave Meltzer at Wrestling Observer Radio has shed some light on what WWE planned to do with Cole had he stayed and made a move away from the black and gold brand.

So this is the basic gist, they were going to bring him up. The basic idea was to turn Keith Lee heel, have Adam Cole be his manager, probably with a different name because of the last name Cole – the main roster has Michael Cole and you know how that goes. With the idea kind of like a Lio Rush/Bobby Lashley thing where you have this little guy who’s a big talker and he hides behind this big, massive, African-American guy. So that was kind of the dynamic that they were looking for for him, more as a manager than a wrestler.

Apparently the concept of teaming Adam Cole and Keith Lee up came from the very top people in WWE, according to Meltzer:

From what I understand, I’ve heard that it was Vince [McMahon] and I’ve heard that it was Bruce [Prichard], I’ve not heard that that was from creative. One person told me it was Bruce’s idea and another person told me it was Vince’s. It doesn’t matter whose it was but it does fit into Vince’s line of thinking and Bruce understands what Vince’s line of thinking is because they’re both stuck in that other era where that would be what you come up with for him.

Whilst Cole made appearances at AEW All Out and this week’s edition of Dynamite, his first match is set to be next Wednesday against ‘The Elite Hunter’ Frankie Kazarian.
