As the Royal Rumble season heats up, two more entrants are rumoured to be making a surprise return to WWE as part of the women’s edition of the match.
Former WWE Superstars Cameron and Melina are set to return at the 2022 Royal Rumble in St. Louis, MO, according to PWInsider. There is no word yet on whether WWE intends to announce the women ahead of time or keep their appearances a surprise for the crowd on the night.
Cameron is best known to WWE fans as one-half of the Funkadactyls, along with former SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi. The Funkadactyls made their main roster debut in 2012 as dancers for Brodus Clay, but they parted ways with him in 2013 when he turned heel. They remained a team until Cameron turned on Naomi in July of 2014, sparking a feud between the two.
Both Funkadactyls were also featured in early seasons of Total Divas, with Naomi going by Trinity and Cameron going by her real name of Ariane Andrew on the show. Cameron also had a brief stint in NXT at her request, beginning in late 2015, before she was released from her WWE contract in May 2016.
Melina Perez is a former WWE Women’s Champion and Diva’s Champion, making her Monday Night Raw debut as part of a lingerie contest in 2004, but making her official debut as MNM’s manager alongside John Morrison and Joey Mercury in April 2005.
Perez was a key member of WWE’s Divas division until her departure from the company in January 2011. She would, however, return to the company on occasion, once as a referee in a 24/7 Championship segment in 2019 and again at Legends Night in January 2021.
