The highly-anticipated contest between AEW Champion Adam Page and Bryan Danielson which took place at Winter Is Coming has received high plaudits from Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

‘Hangman’ Adam Page finally completed his two-year journey to finally holding the AEW World Championship when he defeated Kenny Omega for the title at Full Gear in November. His quest started when he was involved in the first match for the belt in 2019.

Also at Full Gear, Bryan Danielson defeated Miro to confirm himself as the number one contender to the title, with the clash eventually finalised for Winter Is Coming on 15th December 2021.

The match was a hard-hitting affair, but in the end there was no definitive conclusion. Adam Page eventually managed to hit the Buckshot Lariat on his opponent, but as he slowly crawled towards Danielson (who also rolled away on to his front) the bell rang to signify that the match had reached its 60-minute time limit.

Whilst this result saved face for both men, what they did within the time they had earned plaudits from across the wrestling industry, and has also led to the match being given a five-star rating by Dave Metlzer at The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

This is somewhat of a landmark moment for Adam Page, as it is his second major rating from Metlzer in recent weeks. His match with Kenny Omega at five stars ended up receiving five and a half stars.

It is also Danielson’s second five-star rating since joining AEW in September, with his 30-minute draw with ‘The Cleaner’ at Grand Slam getting the same rating.

Also at Winter Is Coming, MJF kept up his streak by winning a third consecutive Dynamite Diamond ring, defeating Dante Martin with a bit of help from Ricky Starks.

In the aftermath of the match, a brawl ensued which led to a six-man tag being set for AEW Dynamite on 22nd December pitting FTR and MJF against Sting, Darby Allin and CM Punk.
