Tony Khan Gives Big Update On AEW Dynamite Surprise Debut

Tony Khan has given a further update on the prospect of a new talent walking through ‘The Forbidden Door’ and signing for AEW on the 9th February edition of Dynamite.

AEW President Tony Khan took to social media to confirm that the person making their debut on Dynamite is a free agent and will be straight in to active competition.

The big announcement for Wednesday’s Dynamite that we referenced on #AEWRampage (a free agent debut) and the person walking through the Forbidden Door are one and the same. They’re walking in the door, signing a contract, and then slamming the door shut Wednesday on #AEWDynamite!

The new signing will participate in a qualifying match for the Face Of The Revolution Ladder Match against Isiah Kassidy, who will be representing the Andrade Hardy Family Office.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that one man it is unlikely to be in the contest is former WWE Champion Jeff Hardy.

Jeff Hardy left WWE in early December 2021 after an incident at a live event. He was offered a route back in to the company which would include a Hall Of Fame induction, however he swiftly turned the offer down.

However, Meltzer also noted that the speculation that Hardy could appear was wrong, despite the fact that it would make sense given the alliance between his brother Matt and Isiah Kassidy.

Jeff Hardy cannot come until March 9th so it’s not March 9th. I know a lot of people are going ‘it’s Jeff Hardy,’ it’s not. Jeff Hardy’s not even legally [able to] talk to AEW until March 9th.

That date would tie in with Hardy’s no-compete clause, and given that Tony Khan has commented that the new signee will sign a contract it makes the possibility highly unlikely.

Other speculation surrounds a raft of releases which happened last November, with Keith Lee’s name floating to the top of a lot of lists as the mystery debutant.
