Mosh of The Headbangers has claimed that the team were told ahead of a match with The Insane Clown Posse to “beat the s***” out of their opponents by a WWE agent.
The Headbangers were a WWE mainstay during the Attitude Era, holding the Tag Team Championships after a victory at In Your House: Ground Zero during a four-corners match against The Godwinns, The Legion Of Doom, and Owen Hart and The British Bulldog.
During the same era, hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse started accompanying The Oddities to the ring in the company, rapping the team’s entrance music. They eventually began to feud with The Headbangers and a match between the quartet ensued.
The match became very real, with Mosh and Thrasher laying in to Insane Clown Posse, and Mosh has now revealed to WSI’s James Romero that it came about following a discussion with a WWE agent.
The story we were told was that the next day ICP went into Vince and basically said, ‘Hey, did you hear that? The reaction we got, such a big buzz. We need more money.’ Vince said, ‘Let me think about it, I’ll get back to you tomorrow.’ We had an agent come to us and say, ‘You guys go out there and beat the s*** out of them.
When the two teams met a decade later, Mosh mentioned that there were no hard feelings over the incident.
They came up to us and they were like, ‘It’s so great to see you guys. That match we had where you guys beat the s*** out of us, you really beat the s*** out of us, but that was so much fun. We loved it. We’re so happy to have you here.
The Headbangers split as a team in 2000, and were eventually released by WWE in 2001 although continued to team on the independent wrestling circuit.
