Summer Rae Reveals Concerns Of Fans “Being Mean” Over Royal Rumble Announcement

Summer Rae makes a WWE entrance.

Returning WWE superstar Summer Rae has revealed that her return for the Royal Rumble was meant to be kept a surprise, and after it was announced she was concerned about potential backlash from fans.

The 7th January edition of WWE SmackDown saw both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumbles having plenty of spots filled up.

Whilst there were some substantial additions to the men’s match including the likes of Sheamus and Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, much of the attention was drawn by the women’s match. Current IMPACT Wrestling Women’s Champion Mickie James was announced, as well as The Bella Twins, Lita and Summer Rae.

Summer Rae, known outside the ring as Danielle Moinet, originally signed with WWE in 2011. She went on to work for the company for the next six years, including a substantial stint as Fandango’s valet and dance partner. Moinet was also a regular fixture on Total Divas.

Following the announcement that Summer Rae would be in the 2021 Royal Rumble, she used her Instagram story to discuss how she thought the news was being kept secret, and how fears of how mean people can be on social media.

Okay, so obviously I can’t sleep. I’ve been on Twitter and I am so overwhelmed by the amazing response on Twitter by you guys,” Summer writes. “Oh my gosh, like, we weren’t even supposed to announce that I was going to be in the Rumble, it was going to be a surprise and then, I found out a couple of hours ago. So I was really nervous to look on Twitter, because people are mean, like, people just be mean on Twitter and the response — everyone was so nice. You guys have me in my feels.

Everyone’s so hyped. I don’t know, I’ve just been gone so long that I didn’t know what the response would be like, I didn’t know if it’d be positive or negative and it’s just so good. Thank you so much. All my friends are being so supportive and just the fans like, Wrestle-Twitter’s just insane, and I’m just so excited, and now I’m happy that I don’t have to keep this a surprise until the end of the month.

Whilst plenty of names have been added to the Royal Rumble card, it has now been confirmed that Sasha Banks will not be competing. Whilst many expected her to face Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, it has now been confirmed that ‘The Boss’ will be out of action and is not likely to return for eight weeks.
