Last night, we saw AEW put on Night 2 of their New Year’s Smash, two-week event. In the main event, Darby Allin defended his newly re-designed TNT Championship against Brian Cage.

The match itself was incredibly hard-hitting with Allin especially, taking some horrific bumps including a particularly nasty one through a table that even made our very own Hatchamania cringe!

As to be expected however, Ricky Starks continuously got involved in the match, attempting to distract the Champion. Then, as Cage was setting Darby up on the top rope, the lights went out and the classic crow cawed.

When the lights came back up, Sting appeared, bat in hand, and decked Starks with a shot the face, then to the stomach while Taz complained on commentary.

This allowed Darby the advantage he needed to hit the Crucifix Bomb to Cage for the victory and successful retention of the title. Sting and Darby stood tall in the ring staring a hole through all of Team Taz on the ramp and the show closed out.

Will we see Sting get physically involved again? Only time will tell. But for now, it’s safe to say that The Stinger has firmly aligned himself with the TNT Champion.
