On this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown, Sonya Deville confirmed that she will be returning to competitive action.
After her conflict with Naomi continued this Friday, the weeks of conflict between the pair came to a head when Deville confirmed that the pair would clash on the 15th September edition of the blue brand.
Next week’s match will be Deville’s first since SummerSlam 2020. On that night, she lost to Mandy Rose in a match where the loser left WWE.
Naomi has been back on SmackDown for just over a month, having returned on the 27th August episode. On that night she spoke of how excited she was to be back on the blue brand and couldn’t wait to get a piece of the action.
However, Deville was less than enthusiastic and seemed more interested in her phone. She went on to comment that fellow executive Adam Pearce may have done the deal behind her back, as she was not aware that the former SmackDown Women’s Champion was going to be returning there.
Since then, Deville has continued to deny Naomi’s requests for her first match.
On the 8th September edition of SmackDown, Naomi confronted Deville and Pearce backstage and, after being told she wasn’t worthy of appearing in the Queen’s Crown tournament, demanded to be drafted back to Monday Night Raw. At this point Deville made it clear there were other plans, and that Naomi would be in action on the blue brand seven days later.
Deville was first a part of WWE when she appeared on Tough Enough in 2015. Despite not winning, she went on to sign with the company later that year and joined NXT.
She went on to come to prominence on the main roster as one half of Fire and Desire alongside Mandy Rose. The pair would eventually split and feud throughout the summer of 2020.
In the build-up to her match at SummerSlam, Deville had a man break in to her home which would end up leading to legal action. She took a hiatus from WWE following the match as a result.
