Scotty 2 Hotty has discussed his time working at the WWE Performance Centre, and who his two favourite students were whilst coaching for NXT.
Having worked as a coach on the former black and gold brand for five years, Scotty 2 Hotty requested and was granted his release from the company in November 2021.
The real-life Scott Garland recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet, and discussed the two wrestlers he felt he had the most impact on during his time in the role.
Rhea Ripley and Raquel Gonzalez… Those are the two that I feel like I helped the most. Talk about a reward; Rhea will say I’m like a father figure to her; how much better can it get than that?
She was a 20-year old kid when she came in, and I’ve seen both her and Raquel grow up over the years. My last show that I produced for WWE was the WrestleMania on sale; the last segment was Rhea and Raquel standing in the stadium together; it can’t be any better than that.
The duo faced each other at New Year’s Evil in 2021, with Gonzalez being victorious whilst it was to be Ripley’s last contest on the brand.
Both went on to garner more success on their respective brand. Rhea Ripley moved to Raw and defeated Asuka for the red brand’s Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 37, whilst Gonzalez would capture the NXT Women’s Championship from Io Shirai just days before her compatriot’s success.
Whilst Scotty 2 Hotty left the brand of his own accord, it has been a tough week for NXT after many other personnel were let go in the latest raft of cuts by the company.
