Samoa Joe Reportedly Released By NXT

Samoa Joe

Off the back of the raft of releases on 5th January 2022, it would seem WWE and the NXT brand are not done as a new report claims Samoa Joe has been released by the company.

This comes off the back of a raft of releases which took place including the likes of William Regal and The Road Dogg, as well as competitors such as Danny Burch and Timothy Thatcher.

This is being reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful who says WWE have confirmed the news.

Samoa Joe has been released by WWE, Fightful has confirmed with the company.

Samoa Joe had originally been brought back to NXT in June 2021 to act as an enforcer for William Regal, but soon went after Karrion Kross who held the title belt at that time.

At NXT TakeOver 36 in August of the same year, The Samoan Submission Machine defeated Kross to win the NXT World Championship however he was then forced to relinquish the belt just a few days later due to unspecified medical injuries.

Since that point Samoa Joe had been seen at the Performance Centre, and had seemingly been working behind the scenes to help talent including reportedly in a scouting role, whilst there was no confirmation if or when he would return to the squared circle.

The former NXT World Champion has now been released twice in the last 12 months, having originally been let go by the company on 15th April 2021 after a spell on the commentary team for Monday Night Raw.

During his career, Samoa Joe won the Ring Of Honor and IMPACT Wrestling World Champion, as well as holding the United States Title on two occasions.

This also follows the news that Gabe Sapolsky, who was the owner of EVOLVE Wrestling and was a consultant with WWE after being bought out, was also released.

More information on this, and if there are any more releases, as it breaks.
