Rob Van Dam Reveals He Was On Standby For WWE Royal Rumble

Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam has confirmed that he was on the standby list for this year’s Royal Rumble, but never received the final call to make a surprise appearance.

ECW legend Rob Van Dam hasn’t competed inside a WWE ring since August 2014, however he recently revealed that his eight-year hiatus could have come to an end during the showpiece match.

Over the years the Royal Rumble has very featured a number of surprise appearances to give a nostalgic feel to the match and send fans on a trip down memory lane. It has been noted by many that this year was particularly quiet on that front, with only Shane McMahon and Bad Bunny providing a real shock element in the men’s match.

Rob Van Dam has now revealed in an interview with Sportskeeda that he contacted WWE to confirm he was available for the match if needed, and that a return to the company “could happen anytime”.

I let the WWE know that I was available if they needed me for Royal Rumble, and I was on standby, with a brand new outfit feeling great, you know, in a great condition,” RVD said. “In the end, they did not call me in, but it could happen anytime. I really do not have any plans for it, but you know, I would consider any situation from any company. I would definitely consider it. If it’s right, it’s right.

Mr Monday Night is not alone in confirming that he was available for the show and not used, as Sean Waltman (known more commonly to WWE fans as X-Pac) has also noted that he was now cleared for a return following knee surgery and was on the waiting list if needed.

Rob Van Dam was inducted in to the WWE Hall Of Fame as part of the Class of 2021. He was last seen on WWE television as part of the Raw Reunion in July 2019.
