Former NXT UK star and recent SmackDown competitor Toni Storm may no longer be working for WWE, according to a new report.

Toni Storm made her first appearance for the company in the 2017 Mae Young Classic where she lost to eventually winner Kairi Sane in the semi-finals. Storm went on to win the tournament the following year, defeating the likes of Mia Yim, Meiko Satomura and finally Io Shirai.

After spending a short time in NXT in America after her time with the UK brand, Storm moved to SmackDown on 9th July 2021. She recently challenged for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, eventually losing the match to Charlotte Flair.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Toni Storm has now “gone” from WWE.

After gathering further information, Sapp is now commenting that it may be Storm asked for her release rather than it being forced on her as part of the budget cuts we have seen plenty of times over the last two years.

However, given the rafts of releases including over 80 competitors within the last two years, a singular star leaving the company could be a sign that there are more names being cut in the near future. At this stage, there has been nothing else confirmed. There are only isolated examples of one person being released, such as Jeff Hardy earlier this month after he refused to enter rehab for the company.
