A new report claims that Sami Zayn has followed in the footsteps of Kevin Owens by signing a new contract with WWE.
The careers of the two men have often run alongside each other both inside and outside the squared circle, and well before they became members of the WWE roster. With Owens renewing his contract and citing that it was the best decision for his family, this latest report seems like their careers will intertwine for a while longer.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that, although he is yet to receive confirmation, Sami Zayn has put pen to paper on his new deal.
In conjunction with being featured more heavily on television, Kevin Owens (Kevin Steen, 37), signed a multi-year deal with WWE. There has also been locker room talk that Sami Zayn (Rami Sebei, also 37) did as well, but WWE sources have not confirmed Zayn having signed to us yet.
This new contract would mark an extension to Sami Zayn’s eight-year stay with WWE so far, having signed for the company in 2013 after gaining success in the likes of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Ring Of Honor. Zayn became NXT Champion before making the move up to the main roster in May 2015 when he appeared as John Cena’s mystery opponent.
Sami Zayn has gone on to be a two-time Intercontinental Champion, and has recently been embroiled in various confrontations with Brock Lesnar. This has been part of the ‘lighter’ side we’ve been seeing from The Beast Incarnate, despite the fact that he is building towards another contest with Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Day One.
As expected, there are no details on the reported new contract at this stage. However, it is now being reported that Kevin Owens’ new deal with WWE is worth up to $3 million a year, so Sami Zayn can be expecting some security out of anything he signs.
