It would seem that, according to a new report, AJ Styles has committed his future to WWE despite other promotions showing an interest in his signature.
There has been more scrutiny than ever before on the contract status of high-profile wrestlers in recent months. This has come about due to the likes of Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson and Kyle O’Reilly allowing their contracts to expire and making the switch from WWE to AEW.
Kevin Owens was also in the spotlight for the same-reason, although he decided not to move on to pastures new and signed a new multi-year deal.
With AJ Styles having travelled the world during the course of his illustrious career, picking up plenty of title belts along the way, many would speculate that he may look to try somewhere new when his contract came to an end. It would now seem this won’t be the case.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer commented that AJ Styles had recently put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with WWE. Meltzer says that Styles sees himself as a “lifer” with the organisation, and stayed despite interest from elsewhere.
No, he’s not going anywhere. He just signed, I don’t know if it’s a 3 or a 5 [year deal]. It wasn’t that long ago when he signed it. He’s not going anywhere. He had the chance to go if he wanted to but he was not interested. There were certainly overtures made for him and they were good money overtures but he’s in his mind, I think he’s a lifer there. Whether that’s the right or wrong call, I couldn’t tell you
AJ Styles has become a Triple Crown Champion in WWE, having most recently held the Raw Tag Team Championships with Omos. He is currently embroiled in battles as part of the newly-revamped NXT 2.0.
