The possible reason for Toni Storm’s surprising WWE departure has been reported, with budget cuts being ruled out as the grounds for her decision to leave.
Toni Storm made her first appearance for the company in the 2017 Mae Young Classic where she lost to eventually winner Kairi Sane in the semi-finals. Storm went on to win the tournament the following year, defeating the likes of Mia Yim, Meiko Satomura and finally Io Shirai.
After spending a short time in NXT in America after her time with the UK brand, Storm moved to SmackDown on 9th July 2021. She recently challenged for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, eventually losing the match to Charlotte Flair.
Those that I spoke to within WWE believe Toni Storm asked for her release from the company, though I'm also making an effort to reach out to those close to her. The memo that went out did not list budget cuts as the reason, as has been tradition of late.

Budget cuts have reportedly been the reason given for over eighty releases from WWE over the past year, with the roster seeing several rounds of cuts in 2021. The most recent release from the company came on December 9th when Jeff Hardy was let go after he reportedly refused the company’s request to attend rehab.
