It would seem both Vince McMahon and Pat McAfee are set for a spectacular return to in-ring competition, with a match between the pair reportedly listed on WWE’s internal schedule for this year’s WrestleMania.
During Friday Night SmackDown on 25th February, Pat McAfee returned to the commentary desk having missed the last two weeks of television, during which time his position was covered by Corey Graves.
During the episode, the former NFL star confirmed that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon would be the next guest on his Pat McAfee Show.
The episode of the show will be airing live on 3rd March via YouTube, and will mark the first time McMahon has conducted a full interview since he joined Steve Austin for the WWE Network back in 2014.
Although the announcement came pretty much out of nowhere, speculation quickly ramped up that the pair could be set to be involved in more than just the one interview given that WrestleMania is just around the corner. As rumours intensified, it was said that a match between the pair was “highly likely”.
In a new report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he claims that the internal schedule for ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’ includes that match.
As of last night, Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee was listed as a match on the internal schedule for WrestleMania.

If McMahon were to return to the ring, it would be the first time he has been in active competition for 12 years, having last competed against Bret Hart in a No Holds Barred match at WrestleMania 26.
In contrast to the extensive time McMahon has spent in and around a wrestling ring, the match at WrestleMania would only be Pat McAfee’s third. He made an impressive debut in a losing effort against Adam Cole at NXT: TakeOver XXX, and then went on to lead The Kings Of Wrestling in to a War Games encounter with The Undisputed Era in December 2020, in a match where he was again unsuccessful.
