Last week it was announced that the NXT UK Championship match scheduled for this week’s episode had been postponed.
Long time champion WALTER was set to defend his title against Ilja Dragunov in a rematch from NXT UK’s match of the year. However, it had been announced that due to the champion suffering a hand injury, the bout would be postponed.
It has now been announced that the match will take place on Sunday 22nd August on the NXT TakeOver 36 event. It will be a rematch between the two men who took part in NXT UK’s match of the year for 2020.
The NXT UK Championship has changed hands twice and both of these changes have taken place on TakeOver events in the US. Firstly Pete Dunne took the belt from the first champion, Tyler Bate at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in 2017. Dunne then lost the belt to WALTER at NXT TakeOver: New York in April 2019.
The bout is the second confirmed match for TakeOver 36. The first has not been announced on TV yet bit it was confirmed during this week’s NXT TV tapings and it is a doozy!
