By vanquishing Velveteen Dream in the underwhelming Backlot Brawl at NXT Takeover: In Your House last Sunday, Adam Cole seemingly drew a line under the latest in a long list of challengers for his NXT Title.
With a reign that has been going strong for over a year now, Cole started the show by gloating about his victory and record breaking reign.
He may not be gloating for long, however, as it seems his next challenger was revealed at the close of this week’s programme.
The main event of NXT saw Cole facing off against Dexter Lumis, the man who took Cole’s Undisputed Era buddies out of the equation on Sunday by locking them in a car boot and driving off. As you do.
After defeating Lumis, all hell broke loose with Bobby Fish, Roderick Strong and Velveteen Dream all getting involved in a brawl with Cole and Lumis.
When the dust settled though, all eyes were on another individual who calmly made their way to ringside.
Fresh off his strong victory over Tommaso Ciampa at Takeover, Karrion Kross has clearly been positioned as the next challenger for Cole’s title and his intentions were signaled by his herald Scarlett presenting the NXT Champion with an hourglass to show the time running down on his title reign. Fall and pray indeed…
It will be very interesting to see how this incoming feud is booked.
With Undisputed Era long being strong favourites of a certain aspect of the fanbase, might we see a change in them as they face the dominant Karrion Kross? Or will Kross himself be seen as a force of nature, above the traditional face\heel divide.
Time will tell. But for Adam Cole’s title reign, that may be in short supply.
