A new report has suggested that following the Royal Rumble, morale is low while frustration is high among those backstage in WWE.

While Royal Rumble matches and events aren’t always strangers to controversy, more recent instalments have generally been crowd-pleasing affairs. However, the 2022 edition of the yearly extravaganza appears to have set tongues wagging for the wrong reasons.

The men’s Royal Rumble match in particular received mixed feedback from fans, and it has now been claimed that all is not well behind the scenes either.

The report from PWInsider suggested that many backstage were left frustrated by how the event was handled, with the men’s match reportedly changing “20 times.” This included the order of entry, eliminations and spots between those eliminations. A similar situation also surrounded the women’s match.

Furthermore, morale was said to be “very down” with one talent describing the situation as a whirlwind.

“We were all in a whirlwind. Just as you had your role and spots down, everything started over and over and now most of us were back to square one. It changed again and again and again. It wasn’t an easy night even before we hit the ring.”

The women’s Royal Rumble match saw the long-rumoured return of former Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. Entering at number 28, after a little under three years away, Rousey last eliminated Charlotte Flair to claim a memorable win.

Elsewhere on the show, Roman Reigns retained his Universal Championship against Seth Rollins, via disqualification after refusing to let go of a guillotine chokehold. After the bout, Reigns laid waste to his former Shield brother with a chair.

However, Reigns wasn’t done there. With the referee knocked down in the huge WWE Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley, the Tribal Chief made his way to the ring. He Speared Lesnar before reuniting with Paul Heyman to hit The Beast with the WWE Title belt, leaving the way open for Lashley to claim the win.

The men’s Royal Rumble also saw a shock ending with the entry of Brock Lesnar who went on to earn a championship match at WrestleMania 38.
