Mercedes Martinez was part of a raft of WWE releases which took place on August 6, which also included other NXT stars such as Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish and Leon Ruff.
It has been muted that there are to be major changes to the format of the black and gold brand, and the 12 releases which took place that day were just one step of it.
In a social media post following her release, Martinez has thanked the likes of Triple H for their support during her time with the company, whilst also commenting that the best is yet to come for her.
My life..I never thought I would ever make it to the WWE. I stayed dedicated, hustled, grinded, and sacrificed more than I could ever imagined to reach that goal. It took 20yrs…..but I wouldn't change anything bc the universe has a way of making things work out. pic.twitter.com/Jsir9DY2zo

Martinez made her first foray in to the world of WWE by competing in the two editions of the Mae Young Classic, making it to the semi-final against Shayna Baszler in the inaugural tournament and then bowing out to current NXT UK Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura in the second round the next time.
Making her debut for NXT, Martinez became a part of the Robert Stone Brand when she attacked Shotzi Blackheart. She also had a short tenure on Raw as part of RETRIBUTION, but was very quickly removed from the group and went back to the black and gold brand.
Although she didn’t hold gold with the company, Martinez did challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship on May 11. No doubt wherever Martinez ends up following her release, she will be part of the title picture.
