The season premier of WWE Raw came from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and what a show it was. Damien Priest beat T-Bar by disqualification and then decided to beat T-Bar senseless, Carmella was victorious against Liv Morgan, and Big Time Becks was rocked by the EST. Not to mention Keith “Bearcat” Lee destroyed Cedric Alexander AND all of this:
Big E had a big target on his big back
WWE Champion Big E opened up the season premier of Raw by asking one question: “Who?” The “who?” was in relation to who would be his next challenger and he got multiple answers. First of all Seth Rollins came to the ring and said that when he was on SmackDown the Universal Champion had been too afraid to give him his opportunity and asked if Big E would be like Roman Reigns, or if he would be a fighting champion.
Before Big E answered, Rey Mysterio made himself known and told the Champion that he was willing to do whatever it took to win the title one more time. That in turn brought out Finn Balor who listed his achievements and wanted to win the WWE Championship next. One more interruption followed when Kevin Owens came out and threw his name in the hat which caused a brawl between all the would-be challengers.
Sonya Deville then came to the stage (NOT wanting a shot at Big E) and announced a Fatal-Four-Way match between Rollins, Owens, Mysterio, and Balor to decide the Number One Contender for the belt. She then went on to say that as it’s the season premier of Raw, it would be a Ladder match.
First though, a different Number One Contender’s match took place
A Triple-Threat match was held to decide who would go on to face RKBro for the WWE Raw Tag Team titles. The Alpha Academy took on The Dirty Dawgs took on The Street Profits and the winners would get a match against Randy Orton and Riddle down the line. Montez Ford had just taken out Otis on the outside and Angelo Dawkins hit a Spinebuster on Robert Roode in the middle of the ring when Omos walked down the ramp.
Ford launched himself at the big man and was caught then thrown in to the barrier at ringside. Omos then hit Dawkins with a huge right hand which left him prone to a Spinebuster-Zigzag combo from the Dawgs who got the pin and the win to become the next challengers.
Queen Zelina reigned
Newly crowned Zelina Vega took on Doudrop in a rematch from Crown Jewel. Before the match Queen Zelina had her coronation and was watched from the back by various female superstars. She went on to say she will be remembered as being iconic, ruthless, and finished with “all hail Queen Zelina!”
When the match got underway Vega was out-powered by Doudrop until she managed to get a bit of offence in by a rack to the face followed by a double knee strike from the middle rope for a two count. Zelina then attempted to take off the turnbuckle pad but was caught by the referee who tried to replace it. With the ref distracted the Queen showed some of that ruthlessness she had promised and hit Doudrop with her Sceptre, leaving her down for an easy pin.
WWE Raw Tag Team Title match
The new number one contenders the Dirty Dawgs had their shot straight awa at the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships against RKBro, but ultimately came up short. Towards the end of the match Riddle got a close two count on Dolph Ziggler but it was broken up by Robert Roode. Roode swung for Randy Orton who ducked and hit him with the RKO which sent him out of the ring.
Ziggler connected with a superkick to the Viper’s face but was then taken down with a crucifix pin from Riddle for another near fall. Ziggler reversed in to his own close pin but Riddle reversed THAT with an inside cradle and got the pin to retain the belts for himself and Orton.
Fatal-Four-Way Ladder Match
In the main event of WWE Raw, a number one contender’s match for the WWE Championship had been announced for the main event. Ladders were all around the ring and the title contract was hung up in the air ready to be taken by whoever got to it first. Rey Mysterio, Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, and Seth Rollins came with everything they had to try and become the number one contender and, as expected, the ladders came in to play on multiple occasions.
Owens hit Balor with a powerbomb on to a ladder, Mysterio launched himself on top of a ladder on to Owens outside the ring, Rollins launched himself to the outside to take out Rey and Finn. At one point it looked as though K.O. would be the one to grab the contract first but Seth pulled him down then sent him out of the ring with a huge back body drop and through a ladder, which broke under him. Eventually Seth Freakin’ Rollins climbed a ladder and took the contract, earning himself a future title shot against Big E.
