‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin will make his return to the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania 38, and Kevin Owens has discussed what being part of the moment means to him.
It took the recent actions of Kevin Owens and his disparaging remarks towards Austin’s home state of Texas to get The Rattlesnake back to the squared circle. Having been away from action for twenty years, rumours starting circling earlier this year that Austin was being touted for an appearance at WrestleMania, and it was soon confirmed that he would be the guest on a special edition of The KO Show.
Although it is only announced as a segment, there have been reports indicating that Austin is in excellent shape ahead of the appearance in Dallas, leading many to believe that there is likely to be more of a physical altercation than just a single stunner.
In a new interview with Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark, Kevin Owens has discussed how he knew he was in a prime position of Austin were ever to return to the ring as soon as he got permission from Stone Cold to use the stunner.
It’s unreal to find myself in this position. What’s funny is, when I first asked him if I could use the Stunner as the finishing move and he gave me his blessing, it meant a lot to me personally and professionally coming from him because I looked up to him for the longest time. I did figure that, if at some point he were to come back, the logic would be that he would be involved with the guy doing the Stunner. I played the long game a little bit and it worked out in my favour.
Kevin Owens also talked about the recent segment on Raw where he dressed up as Steve Austin, admitting that it was something outside of his comfort zone.
It’s really funny because that’s really not the kind of stuff I’m used to doing. That’s happened before when one of the wrestlers would dress up as someone else, like their rivals, The Miz did it a few years ago, DX has done it, a couple of people have done it and done it well. It was me stepping out of my comfort zone a little, but I figured it was the most impactful thing I do going into the match or confrontation, but it ended up being a lot of fun. I think I pissed a lot of people off, which is delightful.
Whilst The Kevin Owens Show is set to headline the first night of WrestleMania 38, also confirmed for the night is Becky Lynch taking on Bianca Belair, and Seth Rollins facing a mystery opponent which is heavily rumoured to be Cody Rhodes.
