Keith Lee To AEW “Probably A Done Deal”

Keith Lee, who was released by WWE in November 2021.

It would seem that the next destination for Keith Lee is near enough confirmed, with a new report claiming that signing for AEW is “probably a done deal”.

AEW President Tony Khan made a statement following the 4th February edition of Rampage, claiming that there would be a “big announcement” on the next edition of Dynamite which would include someone crashing through ‘The Forbidden Door’.

With a number of released WWE superstars having their non-compete clause expire on 2nd February, there was plenty of rumour and speculation as to who the new signing might be.

Whilst there was an extensive list to choose from, others commented that it could be the AEW debut of Jeff Hardy. That is highly unlikely, considering his contract would mean he couldn’t compete elsewhere until March.

The top candidate in the eyes of many was Keith Lee, and a new report would seem to confirm the news.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer commented that AEW had been talking to Keith Lee and that the deal was probably finalised.

I know they’ve been talking to Keith Lee, I know that they were pretty close with Keith Lee if it’s not already a done deal. It probably is a done deal. I don’t know that ‘officially’, but that’s kind of been the word going around.

Keith Lee’s last match was on 25th October 2021, when he defeated Cedric Alexander on Monday Night Raw having recently been repackaged as ‘Bearcat’. Lee went on to be released on 4th November.

During his time with the company, Keith Lee predominantly appeared in NXT, where he held both the NXT and North American Championships. Having signed in 2018, he competed on the black and gold brand until the summer of 2020.

Whilst it seems like Keith Lee is on his way in, there are a number of talents seemingly on their way out of AEW with their contracts set to expire.
