Jim Ross has revealed The Rock’s wholesome nickname for Stone Cold Steve Austin from their time together in WWE.
The two men had a captivating feud over the Intercontinental Championship before Austin went on to win the big one at WrestleMania 14 where he won the WWE Championship. The Rock was only a few months behind the Texas Rattlesnake when he won the title for the first time at Survivor Series 1998, just eight months later joining The Corporation in the process.
That victory put the two men on a collision course for the championship at WrestleMania 15, the first in a trilogy of WrestleMania matches between The Rock and Steve Austin. They memorably clashed again in the main event of WrestleMania 17 when Austin defeated The Rock for the second time, shockingly revealing an alliance with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Austin and The Rock met for the final time in 2003, during Steve Austin’s final match at WrestleMania 19.
Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, current AEW announcer Jim Ross mentioned the two icons’ admiration for one another and revealed Rock’s – now rather ironic – nickname for Austin:
“They respected each other so much. I remember Rock’s favorite nickname for Steve was Baldy. He’d come up to me and say, ‘How’s Baldy today?’ I’d say, ‘He’s the same as always… cranky, intense… Baldy.’ It’s funny how you get all these little nicknames that never make air, so to speak, but that’s just out of friendship and team camaraderie.”
Jim Ross has also recently given his take on Shane McMahon’s daredevil stunts and his dive from the top of Hell In A Cell at WrestleMania 32 saying McMahon was likely “chasing hugs” from his father.
