Jay Lethal Signs With AEW, Huge Debut Title Match Confirmed

Jay Lethal talking with Tony Schiavone after announcing he has joined AEW.

Former Ring of Honor and IMPACT Wrestling star Jay Lethal has been confirmed as a member of the All Elite Wrestling roster, and will make his debut on this coming Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite with the company putting him straight in the championship picture.

AEW Full Gear took place on Sunday, 13th November and threw up a number of surprises, similar to when the likes of Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson made their debuts for the company at All Out.

After a brutal and chaotic Minneapolis Street Fight between the Inner Circle and The Men of the Year & American Top Team, Tony Schiavone took leave from the commentary desk to confirm the latest signee for the company, bringing Jay Lethal out on to the stage to greet the live crowd in Minnesota.

The former Ring Of Honor World Champion quickly set out his stall, and challenged TNT Champion Sammy Guevara to a match. Acknowledging that ‘The Spanish God’ had just competed in a match, he challenged Guevara to put the belt on the line this coming Wednesday on Dynamite.

Not being one to shy away from a challenge nowadays, Guevara accepted the match and the title contest will take place this week.

Jay Lethal began his in-ring career in 2001, becoming a member of the ROH roster in 2003. At this point he teamed with the likes of Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe, before ending up competing against CM Punk.

Lethal went on to join IMPACT Wrestling in 2005, before eventually returning to Ring Of Honor in 2011. Whilst with IMPACT, Lethal held the Tag Team Championships as well as holding the X-Division Title on six separate occasions.

Having returned to ROH, Jay Lethal became World Champion in the organisation and also went on to appear for New Japan Pro Wrestling. His last match for ROH was on 22nd October, and the company has since announced that all talent will be released from their contracts ahead of a revamp next year.
