As fans returned to WWE programming for last night’s SmackDown we were promised surprises. What we didn’t expect is for those surprises to continue after the programme had ended.
In a video released on WWE’s social media channels after the show, it was confirmed that Smith Jr. had taken part in a dark match in Houston and would be returning to the company ten years after his release.
Once again going under the Harry Smith name he previously used in WWE, Smith returns to the company after wrestling across the world in the years since, most notably in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He took part in the WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony earlier this year when he accepted the induction of his late father Davey Boy alongside his sister Georgia and mother Diana.
Smith was the first wrestler through the curtain on the landmark night in Houston. His dark match saw him tagging with Austin Theory to face Odyssey Jones and Xyon Quinn.
His signing puts paid to months of speculation over his future with interest reported from all major companies. As yet there is no confirmation over which brand he will feature for initially.
