This week’s edition of NXT continued the fallout from Adam Cole’s shocking betrayal of his Undisputed Era cohorts, ultimately leading to him receiving what he has seemingly long desired – an opportunity to face Finn Balor for the NXT Championship.
At the start of the show, Roderick Strong came to the ring to demand Cole join him and explain his actions from last week where he attacked Strong out of the blue after first declaring his friendship with his fellow former ROH champ.
Instead of Cole, Finn Balor came out to confront Strong to tell him there was no chance Cole would acquiesce to his demands.
Strong furiously blamed Balor for Cole’s actions, pointing out all was well with the UE until he joined their orbit. The Irishman corrected him by saying it wasn’t he himself responsible for Cole’s betrayal, but Cole’s lust for the NXT Championship.
He then challenged Cole to an NXT Championship match next week as a way to grab his attention. A match that was quickly confirmed.
That was not the end of the segment though as Balor then challenged Strong to get more greedy and selfish if he wanted to be a leader, rather than a follower. This challenge set up a match between the two in the main event of the evening.
Ultimately, Balor won that match, leading to a stare down with his challenger next week who came out on to the stage at the bout’s conclusion.
This Championship match promises to be an absolutely stacked show. Io Shirai will also defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Toni Storm and NXT General Manager has promised an announcement that will change the face of NXT forever.
