Former WWE Superstar Charlie Haas has admitted that he wishes his career in the company had gone better, saying he was his “own worst enemy”.

Charlie Haas joined WWE towards the end of the year 2000 after a successful try-out match at Madison Square Garden. He arrived on the main roster two years later, joining aligning himself with Shelton Benjamin and Kurt Angle to form Team Angle.

After parting from Angle, Haas and Benjamin renamed themselves ‘The World’s Greatest Tag Team’ and lived up to the moniker by capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships. Haas briefly left the company in 2005, before returning a year later. However, after an unsuccessful run as a singles wrestler under several gimmicks, he was released in February 2010.

Speaking on the Kurt Angle Show, (available on AdFreeShows), Charlie Haas opened up about hating how his time with the company came to an end. He explained that he lost sight of who he was and became his own worst enemy.

“I didn’t know who I was and they could tell. They put all these characters on me and I did it in a way that I wasn’t going to disrespect them. I was going to honour them, I did it to the best of my ability. I wasn’t happy with the way it ended, I hated it, I wish my career could’ve gone better, I wish I had some IC title runs or the US title. I just didn’t know who I was, I was lost and I was my own worst enemy.”

Later in the conversation, Charlie Haas spoke about how much winning the WWE Tag Team Championships alongside Benjamin meant to him.

“I’ve never been so happy in my life. We won it and beat the Guerreros. Kurt had the World Title and we had all the titles. You couldn’t ask for a better storyline and I’m just glad because we didn’t sink. I’m glad that we were able to keep our composure, stay humble and I’m just glad that it worked out. I’ve always told Shelton ‘I think you’re a guardian angel that [my brother] Russ sent me.’ Shelton and I are still best friends, he was the best man at my wedding, godfather to [my daughter] and he’s my brother man.”
