Former WWE Superstar Recalls Offending Vince McMahon – “I Shouldn’t Have Said That”

vince McMahon speaks in ring

Former WWE Superstar Sabu has revealed a conversation he had with Vince McMahon, during which he inadvertently offended the WWE Chairman.

Sabu had a short career in WWE which began ahead of the second ECW One Night Stand event in 2006. At the show, the former ECW World Champion clashed with Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Soon after One Night Stand, Sabu became involved in a feud with John Cena which began when the ECW Original drove Cena through an announce table with a top rope leg drop.

In an interview with Title Match Wrestling, Sabu recalled that Vince McMahon, who had injured his tailbone when performing a similar spot, wanted to discuss the move with him before the show, and that was when he misspoke.

“We walk out to the ring and he goes, ‘I did a bump on this table and I busted my ass.’ I went, ‘Well, that’s you.’ But I shouldn’t have said that. I go, ‘That’s you, of course you busted your ass. You’re the sh*ts.’ But I shouldn’t have said that. ‘Yeah, that’s you but I’m not gonna do that.’ Even if it’s possible, I’m not gonna listen to him.

“Yes, he did [take offense to the comment], yes, he did.”

This would not be the only time that Sabu regretted a conversation with McMahon, as he also ended up getting on the wrong side of the WWE Chairman on another occasion when he thought McMahon was joking.

“Vince made a remark saying, ‘You could be the Steve Austin or the Hulk Hogan of ECW,’ and I giggled. I went [laughs], ‘Who the f*** wants to do that?’ I didn’t know he was serious. He wanted me to be like the King of ECW who didn’t wrestle much, which I didn’t understand at the time.”

Sabu only stayed with WWE for one year, as he was released from his contract with the promotion on May 16th, 2007. WWE’s version of ECW would itself only run until 2010 and was later replaced as the ‘Third Brand’ of WWE by NXT.
