After the news that Ronda Rousey could be stepping back into a WWE ring at the Royal Rumble, another former champion is reportedly being discussed for a long-awaited return.
Asuka hasn’t wrestled since competing in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match on July 18th 2021.Earlier in the 2021 The Empress of Tomorrow had sustained an injury at the hands of Shayna Baszler which saw her require dental surgery.
The star shared a photo of herself with her dentist in August as she underwent further treatment, however, in the post Asuka could be seen wearing a brace on her arm. At the time, there was no news on what the injury might be, or how long the former NXT Women’s Champion would be out of action.
However, a new report has claimed that the star is being discussed as an entrant in the Royal Rumble. The report from Fightful Select notes that Asuka is being “discussed” for a potential appearance. In addition there are “several talent” within WWE who believe that Asuka will be making her return in the match. While Fightful have confirmed that Asuka has been discussed as a potential entrant, WWE are remaining coy over the speculation.
The news comes after it was reported by Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast that Asuka had been cleared to return to the ring earlier in January.
It has also been reported in recent days that Ronda Rousey could also be set for a surprise appearance at the event.
Asuka signed for WWE in the summer of 2015, where she initially appeared in NXT. During her time on what was the black and gold brand, the star racked up a record NXT Women’s Championship reign spanning more then 500 days.
After moving to the main roster, Asuka continued her impressive form winning every WWE Women’s Championship available as well as the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank. Asuka is a two-time Women’s Tag Team Champion, two-time Raw Women’s Champion and one-time SmackDown Women’s Champion.
