Former WWE superstar Erick Redbeard has discussed a storyline which never came to pass which would have seen him feud with Seth Rollins over the death of a rat.
Known as Erick Rowan during his time with WWE, Erick Redbeard was most famously a member of The Wyatt Family before he was released by the company in April 2020.
In the latter stages of his time with WWE, Redbeard brought a covered cage to the ring, not revealing what was inside at first but clearly showing affection towards whatever it was.
It eventually turned out that there was a giant spider inside the cage, however his lifespan wasn’t that long as he was eventually destroyed by Drew McIntyre.
peaking to Wrestle Buddy, Erick Redbeard revealed that this was not the original plan for the storyline, and that there was originally going to be a rat inside the cage which would lead to a feud with Seth Rollins.
Originally, it [caged beast story] was supposed to lead to a feud with Seth [Rollins], involving the death of a rat accidentally which intrigued me as a character because you get the big guy who has to deal with this grief and then come to terms with this grief and then…
Yeah [Seth was supposed to ‘kill it’] and why would you not wanna feud with Seth in something that could have meant something? But then obviously, he went from babyface to heel maybe like two weeks after the fact so then that whole thing got dropped and then they just didn’t know what was in the cage.”
They kept giving me TV time which you can’t get mad with TV time. You know, but how many people can you squash and not continue to tell the story. So, you know, to me it just got old and repetitive and you thought it’d make every squash match a little different and tell a little bit more story of the cage but you know, sometimes I wasn’t allowed to.
Erick Redbeard has made sporadic appearances for AEW following his WWE release, including paying tribute to former partner Brodie Lee on his memorial show. His most recent appearance was in tag action at the Revolution 2022 Buy-In show against House Of Black.
Ahead of the final episode of Monday Night Raw before WrestleMania, a video was released by WWE where Seth Rollins was confirmed to be in a match at WrestleMania by Vince McMahon, which is highly speculated to be against a returning Cody Rhodes.
