Drew McIntyre Advises NXT 2.0 Prospects – Remember “It’s The Long Game”

Drew McIntyre

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has advised current NXT stars to “be patient” in their pursuits, and to make sure they don’t get ahead of themselves.

NXT 2.0 launched on 14th September with a revamped product. Part of this has seen a focus on new, young talent including the likes of Bronson Breakker, who seems to be on a fast-track to an NXT Championship match against Tommaso Ciampa.

Speaking to Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes during WWE’s recent tour of the UK, former NXT Champion McIntyre gave some wise words for these younger stars who are now coming through that brand.

Yeah, stay the course. Don’t get ahead of yourself. You don’t have to have everything right now, especially if you’re kind of inexperienced. You know, make the most of the time you’ve got in NXT, especially the non-televised show. Remember, it’s 52 weeks a year. I used to drive myself crazy if everything wasn’t happening right now but it’s the long game in WWE because we are nonstop with no reruns, no off-season, every single week. Just take your time, learn your craft, be patient, don’t believe everything everyone says on social media be it positive or negative. Just listen to the people around you. They’ve been around for a long time and you’ll be fine.

When McIntyre made his return to WWE in 2017 after three years away from the company, he went straight to NXT and in just four months won the top title on the brand when he defeated Bobby Roode at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

McIntyre then made his way to the main roster where he became one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions alongside Dolph Ziggler.

2020 is arguably McIntyre’s best year in the company, both winning the Royal Rumble, and then defeating Brock Lesnar to win his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36.

Given the credentials McIntyre now holds, and knowing the long route he took both within and outside WWE to get to the top, his advice to the current NXT 2.0 crop come from a wise place.
