Dolph Ziggler has spoken of how he had to take the slow path to the top in WWE at times after being told that Vince McMahon didn’t see it in him.

The former World Heavyweight Champion has been a mainstay in the company since the mid-2000’s, originally debuting as a member of The Spirit Squad.

Resurfacing as a singles competitor in 2008 and under his more well known name of Dolph Ziggler, he has been featured by the company ever since.

However, despite two World Championship reigns, Ziggler has never managed to have a prolonged period at the top of the game.

In an interview with SevenVenues, Ziggler has talked about how he was told McMahon and others didn’t see it in him, and some of the actions he had to take in order to change that opinion.

Sometimes it was second-hand by other people but not in a condescending way. ‘Hey man Vince (McMahon) doesn’t see it in you.’ A few times it was pretty close to the top. ‘Hey man, we just don’t see it. It just doesn’t work for you.’

Every day it was like I can take it but if I can get just 30 seconds let me try to prove them wrong. So, for the next couple of years, something would happen, somebody would get hurt, they would put me in that spot, and I would go out and if they could put me into that spot a little more, after that if I could just win a few times and after that maybe I could just retain. So it was baby steps, little goals all the way through. Somehow the timing worked out and sometimes it happens.

It was Ziggler’s second WWE World Championship win which is seen by many as the pinnacle of his career, when he cashed in the Money In The Bank briefcase on Raw the night after WrestleMania. With the show taking place at the Izod Center in New Jersey, it was one of the biggest receptions of his career as Ziggler cashed in and successfully took the title from Alberto Del Rio.
