Did WWE Set Up A Titanic NXT Championship Match For The Next TakeOver?

NXT Championship Belt

On this week’s edition of NXT, Karrion Kross defended his NXT Championship against Johnny Gargano in a match that took place with Samoa Joe as the special guest referee.

The match itself was typically fantastic given the participants and ended with Kross securing the victory over an exhausted Gargano.

After the match, inevitably, the champion and NXT’s new enforcer ended up in a nose to nose confrontation. As Joe walked away, Kross grabbed him from behind in a chokehold that he cinched in until Joe passed out. The programme went off the air with Kross and his herald Scarlett standing triumphantly over Joe with the championship belt aloft.

The symbolism counts have been clearer. These two are set to clash for that title sooner or later in what will be Joe’s first match since March 2020.

Fans have been salivating about various dream matches for Joe since he returned to NXT last month. He was surprisingly released from his WWE contract on April 15th 2021. Exactly two months later he made his return to the black and gold brand and made no secret in interviews of his desire to resume his in ring career.

The smart money now should be on him doing just that at the next NXT TakeOver event against the undefeated champion in what would be an absolute barnburner of a clash.
