WWE Hall of Famer DDP has called former WWE star John Morrison one of the best athletes on the planet, and discussed how he tried to convince him to go to AEW before he went back to WWE.
DDP rose to the highest fame of his career in WCW, where he held the World Championship. When the organisation was sold to WWE in 2001 he made the switch there, with his in-ring career finishing in a short stint with IMPACT Wrestling following that.
The master of the Diamond Cutter has gone on to make sporadic appearances for All Elite Wrestling, with one memorable moment coming at All In when he was in the corner of Cody Rhodes for his NWA World Championship contest with Nick Aldis.
Speaking on The Bro Show, DDP has explained the advice he gave to John Morrison when he was making a decision about with company to sign for in 2020.
When John was thinking about going back (to WWE), I was like, ‘Bro, go to AEW. You’ll be a huge star there.’ Johnny’s one of the most talented workers on the planet… AEW is a different version of WCW, where the work rate is different to the jargon. The workers there are… you’ve just seen the guys from Undisputed (Era), all those cats can work their ass off.
That guy (Morrison) is one of the most talented human beings, as far as being an athlete, on the planet. His whole parkour stuff that he does. He’s a real-life superhero.
John Morrison went on to sign with WWE at the time, however was released as part of the raft of cuts on 18th November 2021. His release came just two weeks after his wife Taya Valkyrie was let go by the company having made only a handful of appearances on NXT.
