Dates For 2021 WWE Draft Confirmed

WWE Draft

The annual WWE Draft has been announced, as we now know when the Raw and SmackDown drafts will take place.

As confirmed on this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, the blue brand’s draft will take place on Friday, 1st October with Raw following up on Monday, 4th September.

These are the dates which had already been rumoured, with Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast reporting recently that the annual event was delayed from September.

This is the third year in a row that the Draft has taken place in October. Last year’s Draft was headlined by The New Day splitting up and Big E heading to SmackDown. He was joined by Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Bianca Belair, whilst AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt went to Raw.

The Draft first took place in 2002 when Vince McMahon took charge of SmackDown with Ric Flair at the helm for Raw. The first pick in history was The Rock being chosen by McMahon, which meant ‘The Nature Boy’ could pick The Undertaker who he was feuding with at the time.

One of the most memorable Drafts in history took place in 2005, when John Cena switched the blue for the red. With Teddy Long in charge of SmackDown and the Draft taking place over several weeks, Teddy Long held a tournament to crown a SmackDown Heavyweight Champion. In the end this never happened, as World Champion Batista joined the blue brand right at the end of the Draft.
