CM Punk Discusses Awkward Incident With Fan On AEW Rampage

CM Punk has moved to comment on an awkward moment with a fan after throwing himself into the crowd on a recent episode of AEW Rampage.

During his entrance on the show back in September, Punk performed his now traditional dive into the crowd. As Punk enjoyed the adulation from his public and got ready to get back on the ramp a fan offered him a beer. This led to an awkward few seconds between the pair as Punk has always been open about his ‘straight edge’ lifestyle, meaning that he doesn’t drink alcohol.

Appearing on ET Canada, Punk addressed the comical yet awkward standoff describing it as “hilarious.”

“The thing that was going through my mind in that moment was, ‘Man, this guy is lucky I’m not a heel right now.’ But it was a funny moment for me,” Punk admitted. “I was just like, ‘This is hilarious.’ Sometimes it’s not about the gift, the gesture is more important.”

At All Out CM Punk returned to the ring after more than seven and a half years away. For his big comeback, the former WWE Champion squared off against Darby Allin. Reflecting on the bout, Punk explained that his goal was to wrestle like he never left, something he feels he accomplished.

“I think it was just quieting that voice in my head that doubted anything. Cardio is fine, timing is fine. I was always a storyteller. You’ll never see me do a triple-jump moonsault to the floor or anything like that,” Punk explained. “It’s more about tugging on people’s heartstrings and getting them to care about me as a human being, really. If I have an advantage over anybody, I think that’s one of them. I have this rare connection with the crowd.

“I just think I need more reps. I need to get out there more in front of a live audience and wrestle. I’ll be back to form in no time; I think I haven’t missed a beat. That was kind of the goal, to go out there and make it look like I’ve been wrestling last week. I think, mission accomplished. I just want to get out there and hear the crowd more. That’s all I want to do is be in that moment.”

After coming through that match unscathed, Punk entered a feud with Team Taz and more specifically Powerhouse Hobbs.

This led to a match between Punk and Hobbs at AEW Rampage Grand Slam. On the show held at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium, Punk defeated Hobbs in his first television match in seven years.
