Cain Velasquez Comments On “Friction” With Brock Lesnar

Cain Velasquez

Former UFC star Cain Velasquez has opened up about the “friction” between himself and Brock Lesnar.

Velasquez and Lesnar have a long history together, dating back to their time in the UFC. Cain Velasquez earned the first of his two UFC Heavyweight Titles in October 2010 when he defeated The Beast Incarnate inside the octagon.

On the inaugural edition of FOX’s SmackDown, the feud was revived almost a decade later. After shockingly defeating Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship in seconds, Brock Lesnar was approached by his former MMA rival.

That confrontation led to a match between the two men for Lesnar’s WWE Championship at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on the 31st of October, 2019. Lesnar won that match and afterward attacked Velasquez with a steel chair.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com Cain Velasquez says he believes there was friction between himself and Lesnar due to Velasquez’s win over Lesnar during their time in UFC.

“There’s always going to be friction with that. So yeah, there was, but working together. […] We didn’t work much, but talking to him just for that little bit, I just know where he comes from, just from that little time spent, and I mean very little. I know what he’s about, and I respect him for that.”

“What you see out there when he performs, all that sh*t, he lives it, he breathes it. That’s him. That persona that you see, that’s him out there. That’s his true self. Close quarters, he’s obviously more human, but that’s him, and I saw that.”

Cain Velasquez was released from his WWE contract in the spring of 2020 as the company began budget cuts as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has since been announced that he will return to the squared circle in December with AAA.
