Booker T has commented that if Chris Jericho were to walk through the forbidden door and be a participant in this year’s Royal Rumble, then the AEW star could get “booed out the building”.
Since Mickie James was announced to be appearing in the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble match, speculation has been rife about who else from another promotion might make an appearance at the WWE showpiece event. This has led to further talk that the organisation is open to the idea of more surprises coming in.
Chris Jericho has been one of the names circulated in the rumour mill, considering he is still on good terms with WWE and made an appearance on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions in 2020.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T spoke on the possibility, saying that he wouldn’t want to be the first person to test what happened with an appearance of that magnitude.
Let’s think about this for a second – Jericho’s a– may be even booed out of the building, coming into a WWE arena. We don’t know what would happen. We do not know what’s going to happen if something like that was to happen right now. I would not want to test the waters on something like that right now, me personally.
Booker T went on to say that whilst there is speculation, he finds it hard to see an AEW crossing the divide and appearing in the Royal Rumble.
I can get past the shot-taking (by AEW), I really can. I’m a believer in, ‘We could use that, in some way, some shape.’ There, again, I’m not going to bet on it or anything, but I would be shocked if I saw AEW talent come over and do something in WWE right now. It just doesn’t seem it’s possible.
Although he appeared on the WWE Network last year, Chris Jericho’s last Royal Rumble outing came in 2017, where he entered at number two and lasted over an hour before being eliminated by Roman Reigns.
