As WWE Superstars prepare for the start of the Road to WrestleMania, five more names have been added to the mix for the 2022 Royal Rumble.
The Royal Rumble has been a cornerstone of WWE for over 30 years, and the 30-person over-the-top-rope spectaculars have become one of the most renowned matches in pro wrestling history.
Yokozuna used his Royal Rumble victory in 1993 to catapult himself to the main event of WrestleMania 9, where he defeated Bret Hart for the WWE Championship. This started an annual tradition that increased the stakes of the Royal Rumble match to greater heights.
On the very first Raw of 2022, five names were added to the hat for the men’s Rumble match, which is scheduled for January 30th. These names will be added to the list of contenders for a spot in the main event of WrestleMania 38, which bizarrely seems to also include Jackass star Johnny Knoxville.
Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford of The Street Profits, as well as Dominik and Rey Mysterio, were the first 4 WWE Superstars to announce their intentions to compete in the Royal Rumble match.
Rey Mysterio previously won the Royal Rumble in 2006, lasting over an hour to earn a spot in the title match at WrestleMania 22, where he finally became World Heavyweight Champion.
These four men will be joined by Austin Theory, who was confirmed for the Rumble by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon on Raw.
No WWE Superstars have declared their entry for the women’s Rumble match, and with only 20 women currently listed on wwe.com as active stars on Raw and SmackDown, expect some surprises.
