WWE SmackDown this week was held at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dominik Mysterio once again came up short against Sami Zayn, Naomi received a fine for insubordination against Sonya Deville, and Seth Rollins said he’s not done with Edge. But also:

Balor and Big E defeated the Usos

The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Finn Balor and WWE Champion Big E take on the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Jimmy and Jey Uso. The end of the match came about when Big E hit Jimmy with the Big Ending at the same time as Balor hit the Coup de Gras on Jey. It was Big E that got the pin and the win for his team, and after the match we saw Roman Reigns seething backstage. Reigns asked Paul Heyman about Brock Lesnar and if he was going to be at Extreme Rules, and Heyman replied that he wasn’t under the impression that he would be. “I don’t pay you to be under the impression, I pay you to know in advance.”

Crews and Azeez delivered a vicious attack and issued a challenge

Rick Boogs put away Robert Roode with the Boogs Cruise to get the win before celebrating on the announce desk with Pat McAfee and Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. The celebrating didn’t last long though, as Commander Azeez and Apollo Crews attacked Boogs and Nakamura. Boogs was thrown into the ring steps and Nakamura was dropped heavily on the announce table, leaving both men on the floor in pain. Crews then got on the mic and said that Nakamura has made a mockery of the Intercontinental belt and he wants a rematch.

Happy Corbin also delivered a vicious attack

Happy Corbin was set to go one-on-one with Kevin Owens but the match never got underway. Instead, Corbin jumped Owens after he’d made his entrance and finished him with a huge chokeslam onto the unforgiving ring apron.

Liv Morgan challenged Carmella for Extreme Rules

Toni Storm and Liv Morgan took on the team of Carmella and Zelina Vega, but the match was cut short. Morgan sent Carmella face-first into the turnbuckle which caused Mella to exit the ring and get counted out as she held her nose in hysterics. Morgan wasn’t happy with winning like that, so after the bell she picked up the mic and challenged Carmella to a match at Extreme Rules, and she promised to “make her look as hideous on the outside as she is on the inside.”

Belair’s Homecoming Celebration didn’t go as planned

WWE Hall of Famer (and Mayor of Knoxville!) Kane welcomed Bianca Belair to her Homecoming Celebration. He was there to present the key to Knox County to Belair, who herself is from the area. Kane also told Bianca that when she wins the SmackDown Women’s Title at Extreme Rules that she should bring it back to the city and celebrate. Speaking of the championship, the current title holder Becky Lynch made herself known and told Kane that it was her that would still be champion after the match. Lynch, however, told Belair that she was here to show some respect and wanted to shake hands. The EST refused. Becky then said that all the boys and girls are looking up to Belair so why not shake? They finally shook hands but Bianca didn’t let go, which resulted in Lynch trying to knock her down but missed. Belair then got her up for the Kiss of Death but The Man escaped out of it and hit Bianca with the Man Handled Slam and left the ring with her title held high.
