This weekss episode of WWE SmackDown took place in the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cena and Reigns brought the promos, a new Intercontinental Champion was crowned, and Baron Corbin took possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase.

1. John Cena and Roman Reigns go face to face in the ring

With just over a week until they meet at SummerSlam, John Cena and Roman Reigns had a war of words in the middle of the ring. Calling on real life and a recent promo, Reigns told Cena that he’s good but not good enough to win the Universal title, that 20 years of missionary may have been good enough for Cena, but it wasn’t good enough for Nikki Bella. He then said that he’ll smash him and send him back to Hollywood on a private plane. Along with telling Roman that he ran Dean Ambrose out of the WWE, Cena said that all he needs is 1-2-3 and then Reigns will be the answer to a trivia question – “Who did John Cena beat to become a 17-time champion?” He finished with saying that he’s going to take the title, hop the barrier, and may even blow Reigns a kiss goodbye. (Which is something he remembers all too well we’re sure!)

2. A new Intercontinental Champion is crowned

Shinsuke Nakamura took on Apollo Crews in the first match of the night. After both Rick Boogs and Commander Azeez were ejected from ringside for causing distractions, Shinsuke rallied with a michinoku driver for a close fall followed by an exploder suplex and then finally delivers the Kinshasa to get the pin on Crews to become a two-time Intercontinental Champion. After the match Boogs and his guitar re-appear and himself, Nakumura, and Pat McAfee all rocked out to celebrate the win on top of the announce desk.

3. Baron Corbin takes the Money in the Bank briefcase

Following a loss to Kevin Owens (which if he had won, he would’ve been given $1,000 by Owens), a despondent Baron Corbin was stopped backstage by Kayla Braxton and asked “so what now?” Corbin saw an opportunity and took it, literally. With Big E in a conversation Corbin ran up to him, shoved him backwards and snatched the Money in the Bank briefcase then fled out of the arena with Big E shouting after him.

4. Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks make it official

With Sonya Deville presiding, Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks met in the ring to sign the contract for their SummerSlam Championship match. However, as is often the case in these signings, it didn’t go smoothly. Before Banks signed she said she needed witnesses and out came Zelina Vega and Carmella. Banks then signed the contract, as did Belair. Bianca then threw the contract in Sasha’s face and did her best to fight off all three women but was soon over-powered. Banks then got Belair on top of the table and locked in the Banks Statement, using the EST’s hair braid to tighten the hold as SmackDown went off air.

5. John Cena wrestled a dark match

After SmackDown went off the air, the fans in the arena were treated to one more match (which wasn’t on the official broadcast). John Cena teamed up with Rey and Dominik Mysterio and took on Roman Reigns and Jimmy and Jey Uso in a six-man tag team match, the end of which came about when Cena got the pin on Jimmy Uso to get the win for his team.
