Two former WWE Superstars have reportedly turned down the chance to appear at the 2022 Royal Rumble.

A new report has claimed that The IInspiration have turned down an opportunity to enter the 2022 Royal Rumble. The team made up of Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay, famously appeared in WWE as The IIconics from 2015 until April 2021 when they were released as part of wide-ranging budget cuts.

Competing as Peyton Royce and Billie Kay they won the Women’s Tag Team Titles, becoming only the second team to hold the gold.

Following their release by WWE the pair launched their own podcast before signing for IMPACT Wrestling in October 2021, winning the Knockouts Tag Team Championship from The Decay, Rosemary and Havok at Bound For Glory.

It has now been reported by Fightful Select that WWE reached out to the pair regarding a Royal Rumble appearance. However, they turned down the offer, commenting that it wasn’t the right time to return to the company.

Although The IInspiration might have turned down the chance of a WWE return, Mickie James will be taking her place in the 30-woman strong line-up. The current IMPACT Knockouts Champion was also released in April 2021, but surprisingly featured in a video package announcing a number of entrants.

Another Superstar potentially eyeing a return at the event is former Raw Women’s Champion Asuka. The star has been out of action since July, but has reportedly been cleared for a return to action.

The news arguably couldn’t come at a better time for WWE after it was recently announced that Sasha Banks will miss the event due to injury. At time of writing, Bayley is also currently out injured.
