8 Tottenham Players Test Positive For Covid-19

Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed 13 positive Covid tests, with eight players included.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte says that eight players and five members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19 at the club, just 24 hours before their must-win Europa Conference League match against Rennes. The match is currently due to take place as scheduled.

Meanwhile, having started gathering momentum, Spurs are scheduled to play Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday in the Premier League, but that game is believed to be under review.

The run of fixtures doesn’t calm down after the weekend, with Spurs facing Leicester City on 16 December and Liverpool on 19 December in the top-flight prior to an EFL Cup quarter-final against West Ham on 22 December.

Antonio Conte spoke out regarding the situation.

“Every day, we are having more positives. This is not a good situation. To speak about football today is impossible. The last situation made me very upset. The situation is serious. There is a big infection. We prepare for the game against Rennes, but it is very difficult. Again at the end of the session, one player [tested] positive, another staff [member] positive – tomorrow, who [will it be]?

“Now, for sure, we are a bit scared because tomorrow we don’t know what happens. This for sure makes me upset because I am here to talk about football, about my players and the atmosphere that I want to see tomorrow. Instead we are talking about the people that have Covid.”

Conte, who confirmed that he had been vaccinated, commented on the vaccination status of other individuals at the club:

“I think everyone takes [their own] best decision and is a question for the medical department about people as to whether they are vaccinated or not.”

At the moment, Tottenham’s fixtures in the Europa Conference League and Premier League this week are both scheduled to go ahead.
