A Japanese high school football team has gone viral after their Ted Lasso style ‘ring-a-ring o’ roses set piece routine bamboozled their opponents and resulted in a goal!

Takagawa Gakuen High School were playing against Seiryo High School in the All Japan High School tournament where the set piece geniuses claimed a 4-2 win.

We’ve all heard of crowding the box for a corner or a wide free kick, but this playground-inspired set piece confused the opponents so much, their schoolboy defending saw Takagawa Gakuen take advantage!

Two players stand over the ball for the free kick, one attacker hovers near the goalkeeper, and the rest of the players hold hands and skip in a circle until the set piece is taken.

While that sounds like absolute carnage, what happens next is genius as each player rushes into a pre-planned position and their opponents struggle to pick up the players they’re marking.

The video has been viewed millions of times online, and Soccer AM even posted the clip with many likening the routine to iconic TV show Ted Lasso, which sees an American Football coach move to England to take charge of Premier League football, or soccer, team AFC Richmond and employ some rather unconventional set piece routines to confuse the opponents.
